The Mercedes driver sets a new record for the most wins at one Grand Prix

Sir Lewis Hamilton made history today at Silverstone (July 7) securing his 9th victory at the British track, reports Damian Hall from Silverstone.
The Mercedes driver set the new record once shared by Michael Schumacher.
In a thrilling race, which saw the 7-time world champion start in second, he eventually took the lead from teammate George Russell on lap 18 but lost it soon after to McLaren’s Lando Norris.
He took the lead again on lap 40 during the second pit stops of the race and maintained it to the end.
Silverstone also marks the last time the 7 time world champion Hamilton will race at the circuit for the team. Next season, he will move to Ferrari.

An emotional Hamilton said post-race “I can’t stop crying. Since 2021 everyday getting up, fight, train and putting my mind to the task. Last race with the team. I wanted to win it for them. To all our incredible fans, I could see you lap by lap and there’s no greater feeling than seeing that”.
“The important thing is how you get up and you have to continue to dig deep even when you’re at the bottom of the battle. I didn’t think I’d get back to where I am today”.
McLaren’s home hero Norris finished 3rd behind Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. He said post-race “Should we have won the race? Yes! Did we win the race? No. So, I’m not going to be happy with another 3rd place”.
Hamilton’s teammate Russell, the last of the home heroes, retired the car mid race.
