Marc Márquez set the early pace at the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon, topping the opening MotoGP practice session at MotorLand Aragón with a best time of 1:47.532.
Ahead of the weekend, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider had highlighted Aragón as a circuit well suited to both his riding style and the Ducati, while also expecting his continued recovery to leave him in a stronger position than at Silverstone.
“In Aragón I have gathered a lot of success in the past, especially in recent years aboard the Ducati. It’s a track that enhances my characteristics and the riding of our bike to the fullest. Compared to Silverstone and with two additional weeks of recovery, I am convinced that we will be much closer to the lead group and that we can be in the fight for the positions that matter, both in the Sprint and in Sunday’s race.”
Márquez made an encouraging start towards that target on Friday morning, finishing 0.035 seconds ahead of Raúl Fernández of Trackhouse Racing, who emerged as his closest challenger with a 1:47.567.
Marco Bezzecchi was third for Aprilia Racing, 0.221 seconds from the top, while Álex Márquez of BK8 Gresini Racing took fourth, 0.264 seconds behind his brother.
Pedro Acosta completed the top five for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 0.713 seconds off the pace, ahead of Prima Pramac Racing’s Jack Miller.
Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio placed seventh and eighth respectively for Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, with Fermín Aldeguer of BK8 Gresini Racing ninth.
Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top ten for Monster Energy Yamaha, finishing 1.108 seconds behind Márquez.
