Formula 1 fans will witness a moving tribute to Ayrton Senna at the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix, as Sir Lewis Hamilton is set to drive Senna's iconic McLaren MP4/5B after Saturday’s Sprint and Qualifying sessions. Hamilton, an honorary citizen of Brazil since 2022, views Senna as his childhood inspiration, making this tribute deeply personal and symbolic for both Hamilton and his Brazilian fans.

The seven-time World Champion's connection to Brazil transcends his role as a driver. In November 2022, he was awarded honorary Brazilian citizenship in a ceremony at the Chamber of Deputies in Brasília, where he expressed his admiration for Senna and the warmth of Brazilian supporters. This recognition, initiated by Congressman André Figueiredo, followed Hamilton's emotional display with the Brazilian flag at Interlagos after his victory in 2021. Hamilton often describes the São Paulo Grand Prix as his “second home race,” reflecting the lasting bond he shares with the country and its people

For those unfamiliar with Senna’s legacy, the late Ayrton Senna was a three-time Formula 1 World Champion, revered for his skill, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Tragically, his life was cut short during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, a loss that had a profound impact on Formula 1 and spurred advancements in driver safety. Senna’s presence and legacy remain deeply embedded in Brazilian culture and in the hearts of fans worldwide.

Driving Senna's 1990 McLaren will undoubtedly be a stirring moment for Hamilton and the crowd at Interlagos. The choice of car – the MP4/5B – is significant, as it symbolizes one of Senna’s most intense seasons, during which he defended his title against Alain Prost in dramatic fashion. Hamilton’s tribute run is part of the “Senna Sempre” campaign, aimed at honoring the Brazilian icon’s lasting influence on the sport.

As Hamilton takes to the track in Senna's McLaren, the event will not only celebrate Senna’s legacy but also underscore Hamilton’s unique place in Formula 1 history, as he brings together his own achievements with the legacy of his childhood hero.
