Fortescue Zero plans to move from supplying technology to Formula E to competing against the championship’s established teams when the GEN4 era begins in 2026/27.

The Australian-owned company has acquired the Penske Formula E operation and intends to enter with a Jaguar powertrain. Its place on the grid remains subject to approval from Formula E Operations and the FIA.

“Progressing from the pit lane to the grid is the next chapter in our motorsports story,” said Fortescue Growth and Energy chief executive Gus Pichot.

Fortescue Zero is already Formula E’s official PIT BOOST supplier and has roots in the Williams Advanced Engineering business. Its proposed entry would put its work in electrification directly into the competitive spotlight, with the performance of its own team measured against rivals using the same new generation of car.

Formula E says GEN4 will deliver 50 per cent more power in race mode than GEN3 Evo. The championship says the car can produce up to 600 kW in Attack Mode and exceed 335 km/h. Those are series specifications and projections; how teams make use of the car will become clearer when they race.

Fortescue plans to use Jaguar’s powertrain while competing as a separate outfit. Its driver line-up and final regulatory approval remain to be confirmed.
