Formula E has unveiled its biggest calendar in championship history, confirming a record 21 races across 13 cities for the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as the all-electric series prepares to usher in its new GEN4 era.

The provisional calendar, approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, introduces new events at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin and Zandvoort, while Brands Hatch becomes the new home of the London E-Prix. The season will also begin and end with night races, starting in Jeddah in December before concluding with a double-header in Tokyo the following July.

Formula E Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo described the schedule as the championship’s most ambitious yet.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil our biggest and most ambitious calendar to date. Expanding to 21 races across 13 iconic cities is a huge milestone, and welcoming world-renowned tracks like COTA in Austin, Zandvoort, and Brands Hatch provides the ultimate stage to showcase our new GEN4 era.

“Every stop on this calendar has been chosen to deliver maximum sporting drama. Launching the season with our first-ever opener under the lights in Jeddah to demonstrate the speed of these GEN4 cars sets a spectacular tone, while grouping our races into distinct continental clusters ensures we do so as sustainably as possible. The tracks are faster, the competition is fiercer, and we cannot wait to get this historic season underway.”

The expanded calendar reflects Formula E’s transition to its next generation of race car, with the new GEN4 machine producing up to 600kW (815hp), active all-wheel drive and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds. The championship says the increase in performance has prompted a move towards more permanent circuits while maintaining its commitment to racing in and around major cities.
Formula E has also introduced a new race format for double-header weekends. Alongside the traditional E-Prix, fans will now see the debut of E-Prix Unleashed, a 30-minute sprint designed to showcase the unrestricted performance of the GEN4 car. The existing E-Prix format will continue to focus on strategy and energy management, while the new race aims to deliver pure high-speed competition.
Sustainability remains central to the championship’s planning, with Formula E grouping events by continent to reduce freight mileage and carbon emissions throughout the season.

The championship will open with a double-header in Jeddah on 18 and 19 December 2026 before visiting Mexico City, Austin, Miami, São Paulo, Sanya, Berlin, Monaco, Brands Hatch, Zandvoort, Madrid, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The 2026/27 season will also mark the arrival of Opel as a Formula E manufacturer, joining an expanded grid that already includes Jaguar, Porsche, Nissan, Citroën, Mahindra and Lola Cars as the championship enters a new chapter of electric racing.
