Formula E has announced a landmark multi-year agreement with Disney+ and ESPN that will see every race of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship streamed live across 144 territories from the beginning of the 2026/27 season.
“This is a landmark moment for Formula E and reflects the incredible momentum behind our Championship,” Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said. “Disney’s unrivalled global reach and storytelling will introduce Formula E to millions of new fans while bringing them closer than ever to the drama, innovation and excitement of electric racing.”
Under the agreement, Disney+ will become the global streaming home of Formula E, with coverage in the United States also available through ESPN+. The deal will begin alongside the introduction of Formula E’s new GEN4 car in December and will complement the championship’s existing free-to-air and linear television broadcast partnerships.
Subscribers will have access to every session across a Formula E race weekend, including practice, qualifying and the race itself. The streaming package will also include preview and review shows, highlights, analysis, behind-the-scenes programming and full race replays available on demand following each event.
The agreement represents another significant step in Formula E’s efforts to expand its global audience as the championship prepares to introduce the fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car it has built.
Formula E prepares for GEN4
The 2026/27 campaign will mark the competitive debut of the GEN4 Formula E car, which is set to become the fastest and most technologically advanced electric racing car ever built.
GEN4 will deliver 600kW of power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower, with the car capable of accelerating from 0–60mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
Formula E says that acceleration is around 30 per cent faster than an F1 car.
Alongside the new machinery, Formula E is introducing an enhanced race weekend format aimed at producing closer racing, greater sporting jeopardy and more action for fans.
The expanded Season 13 calendar is set to feature 21 races across 13 cities, beginning in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on 18 December 2026 before concluding under the lights in Tokyo on 25 July 2027.
The Disney agreement therefore gives Formula E a significantly expanded global streaming platform as it introduces GEN4 and begins a new era for the championship.
Michaella Snoeck, Formula E’s Chief Media Officer, said the partnership would allow the championship to expand its digital presence while complementing its existing linear television network.
“This agreement reflects the global demand for Formula E. Disney’s unprecedented scale complements our valued linear TV broadcast network, allowing us to serve core markets locally while accelerating our digital footprint globally and bringing our fans closer to the action than ever before.”
Formula E is majority-owned by Liberty Global, with the new Disney agreement designed to expand its digital reach while maintaining its established broadcast partnerships around the world.
Disney’s involvement could also extend beyond simply providing a platform on which to watch races.
Dodds said Formula E was already looking at additional opportunities for the two organisations to collaborate.
“We’re also excited by the opportunity to explore additional ways for Formula E and Disney to work together beyond live race coverage, creating even more innovative and engaging experiences for fans in the years ahead.”
Joe Earley, Co-President, Direct-to-Consumer at Disney Entertainment, added: “Formula E combines world-class competition, groundbreaking technology, and sustainability in a way that’s unlike any other sport.
“We’re excited to help power the Championship’s next chapter on Disney+ and to give fans around the globe front row access to every adrenaline-fueled race as it happens.”
The 2026/27 season will begin in Jeddah on 18 December, bringing the new global streaming partnership and the GEN4 era together for the first time.
