ZANE Maloney is set to make his Formula E debut later this year, marking a significant step in his racing career as he transitions from Formula 2 to the world of all-electric racing.

The Barbadian, who has been a standout talent in Formula 2, will join forces with seasoned Formula E veteran Lucas di Grassi at ABT. Di Grassi, one of the most experienced drivers in the series, has raced in Formula E since its inception in 2014.

With thirteen victories and a Drivers' Championship title from the 2016–17 season, di Grassi is expected to be a valuable teammate for Maloney as he adapts to the unique demands of electric racing.

Speaking about his move, Maloney said he was "delighted" to be part of the Lola Yamaha ABT team.

He said: [I'm] looking forward to this exciting challenge. Although I already know the championship well, this is a completely new chapter for me, so working with such an experienced team, and alongside such a successful driver, is the perfect next step."

Formula E is the premier electric single-seater racing series, featuring cutting-edge electric vehicles that compete on temporary street circuits in major cities around the world. Launched in 2014, the series emphasises sustainability and innovation, with teams and manufacturers pushing the limits of electric powertrain technology. The racing is fast-paced and tactical, with energy management and strategy playing crucial roles in securing victories.

After testing with the team, Maloney, affectionately dubbed "The Boy from Barbados," said: "We won’t know how good our package is until São Paulo. I am confident that I have the raw speed to be competitive, but experience is key in Formula E, so I will do everything I can to catch up as quickly as possible."

The upcoming season promises to be a thrilling one, with Maloney and di Grassi forming one of the most exciting pairings on the grid. Fans are eager to see how quickly the rising star can adapt to the unique challenges of Formula E, including energy management, street circuit racing, and the highly competitive nature of the championship.

The highly anticipated 2024/25 Formula E season will kick off in São Paulo, Brazil, on December 7, 2024 with Maloney's debut set to be one of the most anticipated storylines as the series continues to push the boundaries of electric racing.
